Our Mission

Make it Happen for Yolo County is a small, non-profit providing furniture and household goods as well as support, resources and advocacy for underserved transition age youth of Yolo County. Those that age out of the foster care system have a high risk of homelessness.  Make it Happen provides the resources and items necessary to help towards creating a stable living situation for these young adults.

MIH serves transition age youth (TAY) between the ages of 16 to 24 who are transitioning to independent living after living in foster care or who have experienced homelessness or mental health challenges. While this time of life can be difficult for any youth, most can rely on family and friends to offer emotional and financial support, as well as the items needed to furnish an apartment or home.  For at-risk youth however, this support is often not available. Make it Happen for Yolo County helps address this void by collecting donated furniture and purchasing the new items necessary for setting up a home.

“I cannot thank these lovely people enough for what they have done for me. They have made the non-academic challenges of college a lot easier and turned my apartment to a home. They continue to make the worlds of foster youth, including myself, a better place to live in one piece of furniture at a time.”
